There are several “Universal Profiles” in the menus for selecting “External/Desktop Speakers” and “Headphones”. These profiles are designed to optimize a wide range of external audio hardware including “Open-Ear” Headphones, “Closed-Ear” Headphones, Earbuds, Flat Panel TV’s, Desktop Computer Speakers and Home Stereo Systems. Try them all, have fun and choose your favorite settings.

Just because a profile is optimized for a specific device, that doesn't mean it won’t work on other devices. For example, you might like to listen to classic rock on the “Movies” setting. Perhaps classical music sounds great to you on the 15” MacBook Pro using the Apple iPhone “Earbuds” profile. Or maybe your favorite hip-hop tracks sound amazing on a 20” iMac using a Universal profile found in the “Desktop/External Speakers” category?
