Set the iTunes volume slider (located in the upper left corner of iTunes) to approximately 80% volume level as depicted here:

(Note, when this volume slider is all the way up, some distortion or “squashing” may be heard on certain computer models.)

To adjust the “listening volume” use the “volume keys” located on your computer’s keyboard.
